A Biographical Sketch:

William is an interaction designer and a researcher in computer-related fields. He holds a Master degree in Computer Related Design from Royal College of Art, London. Using an interdisciplinary approach, his student works explore the humanistic roles of computer technology in the context of pervasive computing. This site presents an archive of his student works at RCA.

The student years at Royal College of Art was fun and rewarding. William had been working very very hard indeed. (see evidence of a hard-working student) During those 2 years in London, he had also gulped down countless pints of beer, many many cups of tea, and tons of chips with sausages and baked beans. Alas, his weight was reduced to 120 lb after graduation, (see the evidence here) and his bank account to GBP 1000 overdraft.

Shortly after graduation, the bubble years of internet had come to an end. His great aspiration to be a junior janitor at Microsoft, therefore, was to become a great disillusionment. Despite that, William had done many productive things, including a lot of sleeping, travelling, reading, and playing. These contributed to his understanding about the unbearable lightness of being, or the eternal recurrence of time, but apparently not to his financial woes. What was he to do thereafter? In his free times, William did some geeky things such as maintaining the website metaphorical.net. Metaphorical.net is a collection of his interactive experiments and strange thoughts. Ranging from studies of Nature to studies of Boredom, from snowflakes to hairy-balls, it explores new possibilities and suggests new ways of thinking in interaction design. It received a Bronze award in I.D. magazine's Interactive Media Design Review 2002.

He likes to play chess and go and tennis, to read poems and boring classics, and above all, to sleep. He is always fascinated by Nature and by beautiful girls. He can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, and English, all in strange accents. Talk to him.
